Somagetic breathwork is a shamanic sacred breath ritual with roots in both ancient and modern breath practices. It is a dynamic, in-and-out-of-the-mouth style of breath which supports the release of stored emotions and stagnant energies that are rooted in our physical body. Such stored and stagnant energies weaken our vagal tone (vagus nerve), obstruct the energetic flow between chakras as well as inhibit the ability to live a heart-centred life.
When done in a supportive environment, Somagetic shamanic breathwork can have a profound re-balancing effect on the emotional and energetic bodies by consciously activating our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Using breath to re-balance our somatic and energetic systems is nothing new. It has been practiced in eastern yogic traditions for centuries (called pranayamas). Beginning in the late 1940’s, we began to see the rise of neo-breath practices such as Bioenergetic, Holotropic (1960’s), Rebirthing, Transformational (1970’s) and recently, Wim Hof.
